Just behind the “coming soon” signs and construction fences lining A1A’s
oceanfront thoroughfare, Swedish developer Par Sanda’s 18 hotels and hospitality projects are shaping Fort Lauderdale’s North Beach Village into South Florida’s next cultural hot spot.

Sanda’s developments are nestled among the construction sites of brand-names hotels entering the area, including the Four Seasons Hotel & Residences coming to 521-529 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., and the Gale Boutique Hotel & Residences Fort Lauderdale Beach, opening at 2900 Riomar St.

Sanda’s vision for his boutique hotel and restaurant collection is to transform the sleepy area into a European-style, highly walkable vacation spot just off the beach. The developer employs about 100 people across all of his properties, a number that will grow as he opens more retail, restaurants, hotels, art galleries and social centers in the village.

Par Sanda has an amazing vision,” said Christine Sposa, VP of hotel
operations at North Beach Village Resort. “When everyone was running away from this area, we were running toward it.”

In addition to acquiring more properties, here are Sanda’s immediate goals for his existing properties:

  • The 70-room Flow Hotel, at Bayshore Drive and Birch Road, will be the newest hotel concept to open in the area. It’s expected to open in about four months.
  • The Royal Palms hotel, at 717 Breakers Ave., will open its 16 new rooms in about a week. It will have a total of 66 rooms once they are complete.
  • New restaurants, food markets and art galleries are planned to open throughout the village.

“There’s a lot of potential, and we’re just scratching the surface,” Sposa said.
